Ibiza's west coast is built around one of the Balearics' most recognisable sights — Es Vedrà, a limestone islet rising sharply from the water that anchors this route as a natural finishing point.
Leaving San Antonio
San Antonio is the practical starting point for this route, with the coastline turning more scenic almost immediately heading south — cliffs and pine giving way to a run of turquoise coves.
Cala Comte and Cala Bassa
Cala Comte is known for its multi-level rocky terraces stepping into shallow, layered turquoise water — one of the most photographed stretches of coast on the island. Just along from it, Cala Bassa offers a similar clarity with a more open bay, both good early stops before the coast becomes more exposed further south.
Cala Tarida and Cala d'Hort
Cala Tarida continues the run with a wider, gently sloping beach, while Cala d'Hort further south is the classic viewpoint for what comes next — it sits directly across from Es Vedrà, and timing the stop for late afternoon light is a deliberate choice many routes build around.
Es Vedrà — the natural endpoint
Es Vedrà rises sharply out of the water to around 400 metres, protected as a nature reserve and easily the most recognisable single landmark on this stretch of coast. It's a striking sight from any distance, and reaching it by boat — rather than viewing it from the Cala d'Hort headland on land — is how most visitors actually get close to it. Depending on time and conditions, the day can extend to the Atlantis rock formations and sea caves nearby, both easy additions from this anchorage.
Comparing it to Menorca's south coast
Where the south Menorca route strings together several comparable coves without one obvious centrepiece, west Ibiza builds toward a single dramatic landmark at Es Vedrà — a different kind of day, working toward one sight rather than a series of similar stops.
